5 Monkeys Show Photo 2I would be lying if I said that every show went perfectly, and the St. Patty’s Show at 5 Monkeys was proof that Murphy’s Law is still alive and well in Salt Lake City.  After great opening performances from Manditory Mania and Drop Dead Julio, I took the stage with my guys at about 11:15.  The stage monitors had worked perfectly for the entirety of the evening, however, half-way through my first song the monitor amplifier blew and I was flying blind the rest of the show.  In spite of not being able to hear piano or vocals, everyone in the audience seemed to feel that it was a great performa5 Monkeys Show Photonce.  The problem with not being able to hear yourself is that I had no idea if it sounded good or not – but as they say in France, “The show must go on…” and so we kept on rocking.

Afterwords people commented on how tight we sounded.  I probably made a surprised face like, “really?”  But I do appreciate all of the fans and friends who came out to support on St. Patty’s Day.  I had a lot of fun, in spite of being distracted by the conditions (lack of focus did assist in me f$&#ing up several lyrics). Big thanks to Scoop for his promotions, Chris-Chris-Brad for their professionalism, humor, and general sexiness on-stage, Ken for keeping me calm and for driving me home safe, Drop Dead Julio and Mandatory Mania for rocking hard, Dan for filming, and for everyone who spent their Monday night with me.
