Kevin Burdick LIVE at the Heaven On Earth FestivalWell if you missed us at the Heaven-on-Earth Festival, you weren’t alone.  Most of the 2000+ people attending the 4 day event showed up on Day 2, so headlining BudLand on Day 1 may not have been the ideal spot on the card.  However, we did have a great time and the people who showed up to the festival on Friday Night were treated to the best late-night outdoor-wilderness piano rock concert they’d ever seen. Rocking the forest! One of my biggest pet peeves with people who plan these events or who book bands in general is when they don’t keep their word of what they say they will do.  I’ve seen it all – a bar owner that pays out less then they committed to or stiffs the band completely, a venue alerting us as we arrive that their sound system is broken, or a sound engineer not showing up on-time or at all for an event.  It’s sometimes enough to make a musician go Dirty Harry on their asses.  So it wasn’t surprising that as the event planner informed us an hour before the show that “the stage had shown up 1/3 of the size we were expecting, and that the sound system wasn’t gonna be there until Day 2, and also that the sound guy wasn’t coming,” I lost it (insert 4-letter-word-tirade here).  As they say in Compton, “The #$%#ing show must go on…” So, we quickly scrambled, and using gear that I have in the tour bus, we were still able to put on a great show – inspite of the fact we were the roast beef in an all-night rave sandwich; 60,000 watts to the East and 60,000 watts to the West of us. The highlight of the show was when the sheriff’s department came and bought me and the band some beers.  I responded by making up a song for them on the spot called “I hugged the sheriff” in which I believe I rhymed “perpetrator and masturbator.”  Luckily, they didn’t arrest me ;>) Here are some photos from the event: Brad Verrier on Bass.A near hypothermic Chris Doucet on the guitar.Chris Hancock on the drums.Kevin Burdick with Sheriff Beer. Thanks deputies! Also, here is a quick clip of a make-up song we did called “Rocking the Forest.”  Not necessarily my finest song, but it’s improv, so what are you gonna do: [youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JftSpzKynJM]
