Going back into the recording studio was something I had a bit of apprehension about, especially in light of my recent throat surgery this summer. Luckily it took me only a few minutes of singing to realize that my voice may be stronger on this album than any of my other five. Said one friend in attendance, “Your voice keeps getting better” and my musical dream team of Jake Proctor (Engineer) and Chris Doucet (Producer) agreed. Several months ago I contacted my friend, Chris Doucet about producing my 5th album. I wanted a mature adult contemporary sound for this album and I felt Chris, with his background in film orchestration and his experience working with a 7-Time Grammy Award Winner would be invaluable. So last week I stepped into the studios at Strawberry Sound in Salt Lake City, Utah to reunite with Chris Doucet on finishing the 13 tracks for my new album. Chris had brought in ‘Wonderkid’ Jake Proctor, formerly of El Dorado Studios and Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, to engineer the new album. Jake is an expert at Protools and was unbelievable to work with. His experience helping engineer records for “Ben Harper” and “A Fine Frenzy” really showed as he and Chris pulled some amazing takes out of me vocally and piano-wise. Thus far, the album is exceeding my wildest expectations. Now I’m just waiting for final mixes and then mastering. I fully expect the album to be available on iTunes by end of October and I’ll be posting regularly about it over the next two months. Here are some candid snapshots from the week of recording at Strawberry Sound:
