(These are a series of excerpts from a Posterous blog I had. Posterous is no more, but luckily these have been saved here for posterity.)
I am the very definition of an unprepared father. It’s been 7 years since I’ve even had a traditional relationship. Probably nothing about this child’s life will be ordinary, but I am committed to one idea – “I want to be a good father!”
The Unprepared Father Kicks Off!
The truth is, I am probably the least prepared person you know to be having a baby right now. If you felt unready, let me “one-up” you for a minute. Did you live much of the last 6 years in a tour bus while playing rock music for beautiful women in towns across America? Are you “self-employed” with no health insurance and a meager income? Do you party and act like a 21-year-old, even though you’re going on 40? Well, then you were probably more ready for this then me. I, however, am newly armed with books for fathers, advice from friends and family, and a huge desire to not screw this up. Bottom line is, “I want to be a good father!”
Hopefully, whether or not you have kids, my blog will entertain, inspire, and maybe even accidentally educate you as we work through this process together.
